Birthday Wishes

Another year passes slowly, yet gathering speed each time
Relatively speaking.
The year marked some endings and some new beginnings
Opportunities changing.
New experiences with language and culture opening up the world
It gets me to thinking.
Doors closing behind me as I move forward through the next one
Chances for the taking.
Never are things as I had imagined, no, quite different really
Continents are shifting.
Still I’m in love with the unreachable until it is reached and then,
The Rules are breaking.
The longer I’m away the more I believe that I’ll have it my way-
I’m just saying-
Friends and family send their love and I feel it deeply
But I keep wondering.
Not that they are not sincere, but I wonder about my own fears
And what I’m chasing.
Yet my heart is speaking true and louder than ever before
Upon it God is knocking.

thanks, j. Waking the Dead has really helped me to realize that the heart, though it can be wicked and deceptive, is also that which God has placed in us to magnify His voice. Learning to listen to Him while ignoring the heart is not a good idea. I think one must learn how and when to trust the heart if one is to truly find the "abundant life" that Jesus came to give. I could elaborate, but John Eldridge already wrote a nice book on it.

I just gotta say "Amen" about John Eldredge. Everything I've read has been extraordinary and radical and revolutionary and I have you to thank for the very first recommendation about four years ago.

On top of all the amazing spiritual and personal insight, I really (what's the word, "Jones"?) for the Eldredge Literary Theory. That is, every year I studied and taught literature (15 years?), I would sit up nights sweating over a proper literary theory. Or in English, I couldn't figure out why me and my entire species are so obsessed with stories and story-telling. I mean, this question really bugged me. I thought about it daily. TV shows, movies, books, magazines, comics, video games, ballads, Mtv--it's all about stories.

Then you turned me on to Mr. Eldredge and I found peace in what I call his Christian Literary Theory.

On that note, it's time to sleep, perchance to dream (more stories!). Sorry this is so long. Pass my comments to Jay Bruce; kudos to him for turning you on to Mr. Eldredge.

Happy belated birthday! I was just sending you info about next week and a bulb went off that I forgot to send you salutations! Shoot, I hate that!

I believe that bithdays should be celebrated for more than just a day... so, we shall celebrate when we see you!

Thanks, Kelly! I always preferred to celebrate November as a whole month, with my birthday smack in the middle- like a hyphen.

"Happy Birth-Month, November!"

Or you could have a first name that just means (how I can I keep this enigmatic?) assault with mens rea and intent to, well you know.... I'll keep the secret intact....

are you "Plaming" me?
(that would be to blow someone's cover who's identity really isn't classified- my own definition)

then again, I do know some people whose first names refer to certain actus reus that implicitly imply mens rea (burglery, for example), but none I know of, unless you are talking about some professional wrestlers (The Undertaker comes to mind...)
